Archived News

I haven't updated this in a while! But things have been fairly busy over at Sharkbite. The practice spaces are nearly full, the B room is nearly complete, and we've got a couple of pretty epic sessions coming up. I've mainly been updating the J&E blog, so if you care to follow what we're up to go to www.jamesandevander.blogspot.com. We'll be starting to mix the Winters Fall stuff soon, as well as Summer of Glaciers. The new J&E record will be coming out on 500 Records on Oct. 27th! You can go to jande.muxtape.com to stream the record (as well as Awkward Turtle E.P.) and a new 5 song remix compilation we've made! -Adam

Been super busy. In the last month and a half I've finished :
  • Mixing the We Be The Echo record (Mike Wells is mastering and it'll be done this week, will be posting a track soon).
  • Mixing the Adam Farone record (getting mastered down in L.A. and should be done soon as well).
  • Tracked a new American Steel record (Ryan will be mixing and Wells will be mastering).
  • Tracked another 4 songs with David Fraiser engineering & Currado Rusticci producing for an Italian Pop artist by the name of Romeous (they're mixing in Italy now... What a hard life they live...).
  • Tracked and mixed an E.P. for bay area metal band Invection (this record is pretty rad, I believe they're talking to Wells about mastering).
  • Tracked 4 songs for Echodrones next record which they hope to have done by mid summer. (These songs are also amazing, really excited about this record).
  • And last but not least, yesterday morning I recorded a 3rd grade Walnut Creek Elementary school class singing silly songs about fairy tales... I might post one of these just because it was so silly.
In other news, the label (500 Records) just released Grand Lakes new record Nevermint yesterday, they'll be promoting the record this week with 3 shows. The first being today at an Amoeba in-store, tomorrow (3/27) at the Lobot Gallery Release Show with Starfucker, Man/Miracle, and Guidance Councilor, and then again with Starfucker & Guidence Councilor at the Hemlock in SF on 3/28. Going to be a busy weekend! Not to mention the fact that they'll be recording 3 new songs on Tues. This record is great, head over to iTunes and purchase it or come out to a show!
Also, James & Evander have moved into a practice space at Jack London Rehearsal (YOU SHOULD TOO) with Form & Fate and are putting together a pretty cool live show. It'll be fairly different from the record with Russ (of F&F) doing live drumming duties and plans of colaborationg with Aimless' Jonny Latimer and Andrew Macy helping out with various guitars/bass/hand clapping/poetry reading/being rad. It'll be a cool interpitation of what the record is. Speaking of that record, I think it's mostly done tracking and really just needs to be mixed and mastered.

Enough rambling! Have you watched the last episode of Battlestar Gallactica?! I haven't... I'm so sad to see it end...
-Adam

Metal mania '09 is over! And I'd say it went pretty well. We knocked out all the tracking for the new Warbringer record and it'll get mixed by Zack Ohren in the coming weeks. Speaking of Zach, he's here at the bite and I'm assisting on the new Arsonists Get All The Girls record. Today was the start of drums, and they'll be tracking for about 2 weeks. I also was able to get in some overdubs for Man/Miracle this past week for there new record that was recorded at New & Improved with Eli Crews. We'll be headed over there next week to check out the mixes. Also, the Grand Lake record has been mixed and mastered and will be released on March 24th (digitally) and April 21st (physically) on 500 Records with a release show scheduled for March 27th at Lobot Gallery with Grand Lake, Man/Miracle, and Starfucker. It's going to be a great show!

-Adam

I uploaded a bunch of new songs into the player today, songs from Olehole, Exodus, Spark & Decay, and Mo'Fone. I should have songs from Grand Lake & Evacuee up soon as well.  Things are going well with Cormorant and the had Lewis from Judgement Day in today doing some cello work that sounded epic!
-Adam

So today is day 1 of Metal Mania '09! Huzzah!

I've basically got 4 days off this month. Today started me assisting with Billy Anderson again while we record Comorant. Its a pretty diverse mix of metal that they're playing, so it should be pretty interesting. Halfway through the month sees me engineering Warbringer with Gary Holt of Exodus producing and then it'll go to Zack from Castle Ultimate for mixing. After them (Feb. 1st) I'll be assisting Zack with Arsonists Get All the Girls for another 2 weeks. It's going to be pretty intense.

Also, I got an Ebow, so theres another fun toy to bring to sessions!

- Adam

Its been quite a while since my last update, but lots of things have been happening!
  • The Cattle Decapitation record is finished and I believe being printed now. They shot a bunch of video that they edited down to about a half hour that they're including with the record and has some pretty silly stuff on it, as well as ridiculous guitar shredding...
  • Worked on another record for Bottom with Billy which is currently in its mixing stages.
  • Recorded some violin overdubs for Foxtail Brigades, which is a really interesting 2 piece of guitar and violin.
  • Recorded overdubs for Matadon on the studios 2in. They are currently in New York mixing the tunes and I'll have copies of them up here when they're done.
  • The next James & Evander record is coming along nicely with some guest appearances from The Aimless Never Miss, Form & Fate, Mo'Fone, and Evacuee which is always fun, and one of the new tracks will be on the Jan. release of Lower Class Revolt Vol. 3.
  • Started a new Gabby Velazquez record, which is sorta acoustic/paul simony stuff, which is different from what I'm used to working with and pretty fun.
  • And recored a 4 song E.P. with a woman named Kaya with Dre Johnson producing. It was spoken word poetry over African drums (djembe & dun dun) and a thing called a balophone (kinda like a xylophone but made of all wood).
The rest of the month as well as November will see the opening of 34 practice space by our new company Jack London Rehearsal, as well as finishing mixing Evacuee, more overdubs with Gabby, recording Adam Farrone and The VIR, as well as starting a new batch of songs for Caleb Nichols & The Bloody Heads. I believe Pat Spurgeon of Rogue Wave is filling in for drumming duties since Josh is out on the road with Port O'brien. Should be good. Will have more tracks in the player soon as well as pictures and videos from all these sessions!

-Adam

P.S. Forgot to mention the new Exodus record "There Will Be Blood" that I recorded is out now, so thats kind of crazy.

Been awhile since an update, but things have been fairly busy around the studio with sessions with Evacuee. We've got 9 songs tracked, with a few more vocals and guitar overdubs to do. But we have about 3 songs fully mixed with the others well on the way. One of these mixes will be headed to the 2nd Lower Class Revolt Comp put together by Mike & Zoe of Devil in the Woods. One of the new Form & Fate tracks will be on the comp as well. I moved in with "evander" from James & Evander and we've been working on a lot of new songs for the next E.P. "Hold your horses, they're getting lonely." Lots of cheezy goodness. This past week (and the coming 2) are tracking and mixing Cattle Decapitation with Zack Ohren and Billy Anderson. After they wrap up it'll be more recording and mixing with Evacuee. Not to mention the nearly 40 practice spaces that Sharkbite is building over the next couple of months.

The Chop have released "We Want It All" (you can hear "Signs" in the player to the right) free for download! Check it out!

-Adam
P.S.  Check out Bandloop.com!

Been kinda relaxed this first half of June. The sessions with Cloud Archive, The Chop!, and Death of a Party all went really well. The Chops tracks are off to mastering, Cloud Archive are busy tracking extra instruments and electronics, as is DOAP. Today I got a call (at about 6:30 am) from Billy Anderson because he had just broken his hand and I was supposed to assist with him at Sharkbite today, so now I'm sitting and waiting for Border Wars to show up so we can track drums for there new full length. Hopefully Billy will be back up and running soon!

Also, picked up a few new toys the past couple of weeks, one being a Roland Juno 6 and an Omnichord. Both are really killer instruments and have awesome sounds. So if we're doing a session together and you want to use them let me know and I'll make sure they're there. For the most part they'll live at Sharkbite though.

Phones ringing, bands here.

-Adam

Since the last update :
- I finished mixing the Mayne Smith record which is being mastered by Paul Stubblebine and will be released in mid June.
- Did the session with Exodus (which was crazy!) and the drums sounded killer, Tom sure knows how to play his kit!
- Mixed another two tunes with The Union Trade for their debut full length on Tricycle Records.
- Tracked a song for Evacuees forthcoming full length.
- Assisted on a session with Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen (another ridiculously good drummer).
- And tracked 2 more songs this past weekend for the new Form & Fate record.
Been real busy, and the rest of May is shaping up to remain busy with tracking The Dandelion War and Sax & Drum band Mo'Fone, then next month I'll be mixing some tunes for The Chop and tracking some with Cloud Archive.
I have some new pictures up on my Flickr from these sessions if you feel like checking it out under the pictures section.

You should be watching Battlestar Galactica,
-Adam

Last week was busy with Mixing the Mayne Smith album and getting to track a new song for Judgement Day which was amazing. We tracked one full song, and then  tracked some violins on another track. It sounded epic! Anton might be doing some tracking on some Form & Fate songs which would be awesome. Next week sees tracking Exodus... Which is awesome. They're going to be tracking some tunes over at the bite with myself, and then sending the songs over to Andy Sneap for the mixing.

Thats all for now, check out the picture section for some shots of the Judgement Day session.

-Adam

So this past week I was tracking some more with East Bayers Olehole. An awesome band and great guys, you can see some pictures from that session here and Ryan of AM Steel will be mixing that record in the coming weeks. Also, after the tour to SXSW, Form & Fate came back and tracked 2 new songs for the bands next release and we got some sweet bathroom hallway reverb. The My Mind sessions went really well, the band was stoaked and Ryan will probably be mixing that as well in the next week or so.

Big things are in store for Sharkbite, 40 or so new practice spaces and some new studios... More news to come!

-Adam
P.S. Check out my flickr page for more studio pictures.

Been assisting Billy Anderson over at Sharkbite the past week or so working with Giant Squid and Saros which has been a fun, esp. since we went to tape for Saros!
I'll be wrapping up the mixes for Nine Even on Thurs. and mixing the new Bloody Heads/Treasure album on Fri.
I've been working on a new J&E track with Glenn, its getting pretty epic with all the guitars that are going on it...
March is going to be busy with a little more assisting, then the Form & Fate tour down to SxSW (Check out 500records.com for more info on that if you're interested), tracking a band from Arizona (My Mind, with Ryan of AM Steel mixing), and then tracking 3 or 4 songs for the new Form & Fate record.

Busy busy month ahead of me! And April is shaping up to be equally busy!

Good times,
-Adam

Nine Even is (mostly) done! We've got one day booked for next week to do any final tweaks the band wants, but other than that the record is finished! Huzzah! They'll more than likely be taking it to Mike Wells for mastering and then I'll get a track posted up here. Speaking of posting tracks, I put up a track from the Evacuee sessions as well as Desa (which just released today!) and it sounds great! I also re-vamped the pictures section as well as added some gear I've picked up recently... Boss Hand clapper anyone?

-Adam

Hey there, busy at the bite! Page Hamilton (Helmet, Bowie) has been producing, while Toshi Kasai (Tool, Melvins) manning the helm while I assist. Its been great! Totimoshi are all really great guys and Page and Toshi couldn't be cooler to work with. I've been snapping some pictures which I'll post soon, as well as some other pictures from my recent sessions with The Bloody Heads. The Nine Even record is about 5/8 mixed and we've got another couple of days sched. to get more done. Feb. and March are looking like they'll be busy months with Billy Anderson bring in some sessions as well as Form & Fate doing a tour and going down to play at SXSW which should be lots of fun!

-Adam

Been awhile since an update but I hope everyone is having a good new year. December got a little slow due to the holidays, but I was kept pretty busy due to family going to disney land and the like. Even managed to get a couple of sessions in. Did some work with The Aimless Never Miss again and the new tracks are awesome, we're planning on finishing vocals for the 3 songs we tracked soon and then mixing. Also had a session with the band Desa out of Oakland who are doing a 3 song internet exclusive E.P. They were a fun bunch to hang out with and Ryan from American Steel (and the owner of Sharkbite) will be mixing the tracks. The Desa boys also made 3 videos of the recording session which are pretty silly. Good City Lie Still recently made a music video that is posted here. Also put in some new pictures in the picture session.

Heres to a great and busy year,

-Adam

So Evacuee posted their tracks up over at One2One3.com. They have got some pretty cool artwork/linking going on over there so you should check it out. Still haven't gotten around to posting the tracks or pics up, but I shall!

Hope everyone is having a good December,

-Adam

Haven't updated in a while, but things have been cookin. Sad to report that the Testament gig fell through. But, I have been pretty busy. The James & Evander album released and is up on iTunes and available through 500 Records. It also is getting used on a wikipedia ad which is pretty crazy. I've been busy in sessions with The Sleepover Dissaster, Evacuee, and been doing some more assisting with Michael Rosen which has been fun and a good learning experience. I'll be adding pictures from sessions here soon, and I'll be adding the mastered Spark & Decay and Evacuee tracks in a couple of days. Dec. is a little slow what with Christmas and I'll be taking a trip to Disneyland with the family. But I'll be doing another session with The Aimless Never Miss at the end of Dec. which is exciting, its always fun to do shows with them or record. Big things are happening down at the bite in the coming months, we'll be making posts soon about the new changes!

-Adam

Had a day off today.... Finally... Found out that in Nov. I'll be assisting Andy Sneap again and this time we'll be recording Testament, which should be awesome. I'm pretty stoaked on this, Andy was great to work with. These past two weeks I've been working on a new Mayne Smith bluegrass/country record with Johnny Harper producing. The tracks are sounding really good and I believe we'll start mixing it in Nov / Dec. I got the final mastered versions of the Good People sessions and put up the track Overstarting. I really like the mastering work that Mike Wells did. Speaking of Mike Wells, I'll be headed over to his studio on Thurs. to master the Spark & Decay EP. Really looking forward to getting that done and released!

-Adam

So last night Ryan and I installed a bunch of new gear (old 1176s, LA4As, Altec pres, etc.) into the studio. It was pretty fun learning more about how the studio was wired and getting to put in new toys. I also bought an Ibanez AD202 last week which I've been looking to get for a while. Sat. was the start of 8 days of work, then I'll have a day off with another 10 days booked. YIKES! Should be fun though, some rock, bluegrass, and folk. Quite a different assortment of music. Take a look over at the Sharkbite site to see what new fun things we got.

-Adam

The Tomorrow Men received a great review from Reverb Central.

The TomorrowMen - There Is No Now

If you're going to characterize these tracks, the single most noticeable characterize is the very good arranging. Right behind is excellent writing, very strong performing, and excellent production values. Consider also that this is the first issue from The Tomorrowmen. Great stuff!

So the new American Steel Record "Destroy Their Future" is being released on Oct. 2nd and the Exodus album, "The Atrocity Exhibition : Exhibit A" will be released on Oct. 23rd. They both sound great and it was awesome getting to work on the albums. The Spark & Decay album is mixed, and we're scheduling the mastering dates soon. Hope everyone is having a good Labor Day!

-Adam

Today I did a session with Mayne Smith, an excellent guitar and dobro player. The line up consisted of upright bass, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and acoustic guitar. Great bluegrass music by some amazing players and I had a great time. I'll post some tracks once they're finished. Speaking of finished, the Good People E.P. is just about done. They've got the initial mastered mixes back from Mike and are tweaking a few more things and then I'll have the tracks posted. Speaking of good people, Spark & Decay should be finished tomorrow (fingers crossed) and then they'll more than likely go to Mike Wells for the mastering. And I'll post them. They're sounding fracking awesome... Pardon the Battlestar Galactica reference.

-Adam

This weekend I was working with Say Thing. We tracked to the studios 2in. which was awesome. Things sounded great and we'll be doing a few more overdubs and start mixing soon. Tomorrow (or today depending on how you look at it) is Nine Even from Sacramento, which goes for about 2 weeks over the next month and a half. I posted some pictures from the Say Thing session, they had some pretty cool percussion things going on that was fun to mic. Time to get some sleep.

-Adam

I added a second set of Spark & Decay photos. Some are pretty silly. Finished up mixing the Good People stuff and it sounds great. Once we get it mastered I'll post a song or two up. I started mixing the Spark & Decay E.P. on Thurs and will go back to Wildlife to finish up on Tues. Also, I started mixing the Sensory Motor record today and we're hoping to have it done here by mid or late Aug. Lots of mixing going on with me this month and next, and I can't wait to get back to tracking!

- Adam

Was watching Attack of the Clones today, thats where the heading comes from. Anyways, I took today to upload one of the polka songs from the sessions with Harry and Ray. Its pretty awesome so check it out. I also completely overhauled the picture section. Uploaded new pictures from American Steel, Exodus, Port O'Brien and Spark & Decay recording sessions. I'll be wrapping up the Good People mixes tomorrow. We're going in to put the finishing touches on them. Then I'll start mixes on Spark & Decay. I also start mixing Sensory Motor on Fri. so I'll be busy for the next week or so. I'm going out East the first week of Aug. to visit some of Shannons family, and thats always fun! It'll also be nice to not have to worry about work for a week. Hope everyones Summer is going well,

-Adam

The Spark & Decay session went great and we tracked 5 songs. We should be mixing it in the next couple of weeks. Good Peoples mixing sessions have been going well and we should be done with that in the coming weeks. The songs are great and Ill post them once we're finished. Now I get a little bit of time off and From & Fate have got a show tonight at the Hemlock.

-Adam

I posted lots of pictures from this last months sessions. Exodus, American Steel, Sensory Motor, and this past weekends Good People. Summer Sessions have been going great. This last weekends session with Good People went really well. We tracked Vocals, Rhodes, Hammond, and some glockenspiel on 5 songs and we're mixing next week. Sensory Motor mixing is in a week or so and Andy Sneap is taking the Exodus tracks back to his studio at home to mix. This week I've got a few days booked with Spark & Decay which is going to be a blast. Heres a picture of a sweet gift my girlfriend gave me for my birthday. They're pretty awesome.

-Adam

Next week I've got a few days more with Sensory Motor to finish off vocals, then Good People starts with doing overdubs on a record they've been working on. Form & Fate are busy writing new material for the next album, and tracking should start on that in Oct. American Steel went off to mastering this morning, I'll post some of the mixes up soon! Hope everyone is doing well!

- Adam

The session went really well yesterday. Got drums and bass tracked for 5 songs for a new e.p. that I believe they're hoping to have out for there tour this fall. An old friends band An E for Effort is having me mix there 3 song e.p. and we should have it wrapped up by Mid-July. Now after working 11+ hour days for the last 2 weeks straight I get 2 days off. Huzzah!
-Adam

The week with Sensory motor went very well. We got basics for 10 songs, and started on guitar for about 5 of the 10. They'll be back for another 4 days  to finish up guitars and get going on vocals starting Thurs. I hope to be rested from the assault that has come upon me with the Exodus sessions. The songs are incredible and are quite heavy. Andy Sneap is in producing and its a real treat to get to see him work. There here until Sat. and I have a day long session with Death Of A Party. Look in the pictures section for photos from Sensory Motor and Exodus. I also got another delay...
-Adam

I got an awesome new AD-100. Its a sweet Ibanez analog delay. The American Steel album is done, going to be sent out for mastering here in the coming weeks. Sensory Motor starts Sunday, with Exodus starting soon too. Also, I put some pictures up of my trip to L.A.

- Adam

The American Steel album is coming along great. We finished the basic tracking and the guitar overdubs are done. Ryan and Rory are finishing up vocals today and the mixing will begin. I'm headed down to L.A. this weekend for this... And its going to be amazing... Once I get back the Sensory Motor album starts for a week, then Exodus for another, then another 4 days of Sensory Motor. June is going to be busy, but its going to be great!

- Adam

Thought I'd post this picture of my latest tattoo. I think its pretty amazing.
    - Adam

So this past weekend ended up being pretty productive! I made some new friends at the ape con show and had a session with Kevin from Animal Hospital.  We had a couple of sessions this past weekend and worked on some new songs for his upcoming album. He's taking the tracks back east to West Virginia and Boston to do some more work on them. We start recording the new American Steel album next week and it'll be released on Fat Wreck Chords. The demos for the album I heard are pretty awesome and the guys are planning there first shows back and they'll be announced soon.
    -Adam

Recorded with Evacuee in Pacifica this weekend and had a great time. We recorded to the studios 2in. which is always nice. We'll be going back soon to dump the tracks into Pro-Tools to do a few more overdubs and mix it. The band is getting back into the swing of playing out and you can check out there myspace here. The tracks that we've been working on are going to be released on 500 Records as the labels 2nd release. Also in June I'll be engineering a new album for Sensory Motor and July with Spark & Decay. Hope everyone is having a good Spring and check out the pictures section for a few new session photos from this past weekend.
    -Adam

Form & Fates cd release show went great! We played to a pretty packed house and even though Matt wasn't able to be there it still went pretty well and we had a good time. I've heard some of the new mixes of Good Ciity Lie Stills songs and they're sounding great. I'll post them once I get the finished mixes.
    - Adam

James and Evanders "The Awkward Turtle E.P." is back from mastering and will be released on 500 Records. Release number 1! The label is in the works of getting on to iTunes and there will be a small pressing of about 200 that will be hand numbered and have customized packaging. The songs are pretty damn good if I do say so myself. I'll have some of the songs posted later this week if you're interested!
    - Adam

The Aimless Never Miss tracks are back from mixing and they sound wonderful! You can check them out in my player to the left. I didn't get to go down to Fresno as planned which was a bummer, but it turned out well. I'm talking with the guys in Spark and Decay to get some sessions done in June and I'm mixing One Becomes One Hundred demos that they tracked back in Nov. this weekend and Ill post those up when we get them done. I also made some adjustments to the gear section, sold an amp and picked up a new Hohner Pianet T. Its a cool electric piano that sounds similar to a Rhodes, but its different and MUCH more portable. Its in great condition and I got it for a steal!
    - Adam

The session with Good City was great. We got down 8 songs for an album and a few special tracks for *secrets*. They're taking it home to do vocals and a few overdubs and will be mixing  it in the coming months. I'm going down to Fresno this weekend with The Aimless Never Miss to finish vocals and mix the E.P.  It should be a great weekend and they're looking at getting an EP release party here in the bay area soon! Be on the look out for theses bands, they're doing great things!
    - Adam

The Bloody Heads were in the studio this weekend working on there new album and the sessions are going great. We tracked about 6 songs and they're coming back for another batch soon. The title is a few lyrics from a song titled, "Share a Cig With You." Its a good one!

The Form and Fate album is on iTunes! You can check it out there or at there string of local shows. Check Form & Fates website for more info.

Just got the domain for AdamMyatt.com, so check back for updates and booking info. This past weekend I was at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, Ca. with The Aimless Never Miss tracking songs for a follow up to the groups 2006 E.P. We'll be getting together soon to do vocals and mix. Everyones quite excited about how things are turning out and its going to sound amazing. The Port O'Brien record is coming along swimmingly. We about 5 songs mixed and another 5 or so to go. The Form & Fate album, "The Form & Fate of Lakes" just got back from press and a cd release show is being sched. for mid April. More news and content to come soon!

Been a little while since an update, hope everyone had a good holiday season and new years. The  Form & Fate record went off for printing this past week and we'll have a release show in March or April. Today Evacuee went into the studio for tracking of a few more songs. These new tracks are pretty good, and we're looking forward to mixing them. In about a week we're going to start mixing some tracks for the Port O'Brien album. Check back for more updates!

The Form & Fate record is back from mastering and sounds great. The band is just trying to figure out what they want to do for art work and the song line up and away it will go to printing!
